FOCUS SCRIPTURE: The ox knoweth his owner, and the ass his master’s crib: but Israel doth not know, my people doth not consider. ~ Isaiah 1:3 KJV
SUMMARY: (See Original)
In What Happened Here?, the prophet Isaiah expresses deep sorrow and urgency as he confronts Judah and Israel for their spiritual amnesia. Even animals recognize their master, yet God’s chosen people had forgotten the One who delivered, protected, and sustained them. Despite their rich history with God, they no longer recognized His authority (Isaiah 1:2-4). The sermon explores three major themes:
- Recognizing God’s Authority
- Israel’s rebellion stood in contrast to the obedience of even the simplest creatures.
- The Consequences of Rebellion
- Judah’s land was devastated, cities burned, and people overtaken due to their defiance (Isaiah 1:7-8, 19-20).
- The Call to Awareness and Repentance
- God rejected hollow religious rituals and called His people to genuine transformation (Isaiah 1:11-15).
Yet, even in His righteous anger, God extended an invitation to repentance and restoration (Isaiah 1:16-19). He offered cleansing, forgiveness, and renewed blessings for those willing to return to Him. This shows God’s incredible mercy and unconditional love.
Whether you are walking in faith or seeking truth, this message calls us to move beyond empty religion, become aware of our sin, and turn wholeheartedly to God. When we respond to the question “What Happened Here?” with humility, we open the door to sincere repentance, just living, redemption, restoration, and genuine worship.
