FOCUS SCRIPTURE: Say not ye, There are yet four months, and then cometh harvest? behold, I say unto you, Lift up your eyes, and look on the fields; for they are white already to harvest.~ John 4:35
SUMMARY: Romans 12:5 reminds us that we are one body in Christ, interconnected and called to carry out God’s work in the world. Outreach is simply the act of reaching out (extending God’s love, showing compassion, and offering help) both inside and outside the church.
As we do this, we engage in ministry, evangelism, and service.
In John 4:35, Jesus shifts the perspective of His followers, urging them to look beyond the delay of “four months” and see that the harvest is ready now. Harvest, in a spiritual sense, means ‘gathering souls for the Kingdom of God’.
Jesus makes it clear: The Time is Now! We are the labourers!
Two powerful takeaways from Jesus’ message are:
- Don’t Dismiss the Now
- Jesus warns us not to delay kingdom work, saying, “Say not ye, There are yet four months…?” He shows the power of acting now through His encounter with the woman at the well, while the disciples, focused on food, did not recognize the spiritual significance of the moment.
- See the Fields Through God’s Eyes
- Jesus calls us to lift our eyes and see hearts ready for hope, just as He did with the Samaritan woman, whose transformation sparked a revival. God’s timing is always in season, and He urges us to see people not by their past, but by their potential through His love.
