SHINING LIGHT IN THE DARKNESS

Mar 16, 2025 | Called to Outreach Vision Series

FOCUS SCRIPTURE: (14) Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid 15 Neither do men light a candle, and put it under a bushel, but on a candlestick; and it giveth light unto all that are in the house. (16) Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven. ~Matthew 5:14-16 KJV

SUMMARY: This message reminds us that God sees each of us (our gifts, our purpose, and our influence) and calls us to be a light in a dark world. In Matthew 5:14–16, Jesus declares that we are the light of the world, not might be someday, but right now. From this passage, we learn three key truths: our identity is light, we are not to hide that light, and we are called to let it shine so others may see our good works and glorify God.

Sermon Highlights:

Your Identity – You Are the Light of the World

Jesus declares that we are already light, created to stand out and reflect God’s love, truth, and purpose to those around us.

Don’t Hide Your Light

God’s gifts in you (your faith, kindness, and talents) are meant to be shared. Hiding them helps no one; the world needs what God placed inside you.

Let Your Light Shine

Your light shines through how you live—doing right, helping others, and showing love—so that others see God through you.

Embrace your identity and live it out boldly. And to those still exploring faith: God’s light is for you too. It reaches into the darkest places with hope and love.

Supporting Scriptures: Galatians 5:22-23; Galatians 5:14; Galatians 5:25-26 (KJV)

Affirmation: God’s light is in me.
