Overcoming Doubt

Aug 3, 2025 | Overcoming By Faith Series

The series Overcoming by Faith begins by confronting one of the greatest obstacles to walking in victory, doubt. Gideon’s story shows us that even the called, the anointed, and the chosen wrestle with questions of identity, adequacy, and destiny. Israel was under Midianite oppression, and God raised up Gideon, not because he was qualified, but because he was willing.

Doubt distorted Gideon’s identity, delayed his obedience, and drained his confidence. Yet God patiently reminded him of who he was: a mighty man of valor. When Gideon shifted from doubt to faith, everything changed. His faith reclaimed his identity, activated his obedience, and invited supernatural results. The same God who transformed Gideon from hiding in a winepress to leading Israel to victory is still calling His people today.

This message reminds us that doubt may whisper, “you’re the least,” but faith declares, “the Lord is with you.” God does not call the qualified; He qualifies the called.

THREE IMPACTS OF DOUBT

  1. Doubt Distorts Identity
    1. It causes us to see ourselves through weakness rather than God’s calling.
  2. Doubt Delays Obedience
    1. It negotiates with God and postpones surrender.
  3. Doubt Drains Confidence
    1. It leaves us dependent on constant signs instead of steadfast faith.

THREE SHIFTS FAITH BRINGS

  1. Faith Reclaims Identity
    1. Restoring who God says we are.
  2. Faith Activates Obedience
    1. Empowering us to take bold steps even when it costs.
  3. Faith Invites Supernatural Results
    1. Allowing God to prove that victory comes from Him alone.
